Here the hahnemann is talking about the mission of the physician which means that physician should take every case like a mission that should be achieved fully. Physician must attend the patients with true inner passion and capabilities to serve and to save the patient and not just with the sense of duties. No other work is important for the physician other then to cure the sick.

All the energies of physician should be focused to bring the sick people back to healthy state. The word 'high' in the aphorism indicates the priority should be given to the patient.

Hahnemann states “restore the sick to health and not the disease to health”. He considers health as a state of well being where all the structures and functions of the body are in harmony and the patient is not feeling any sort of discomfort. Health is not just the absence of disease. "Health is that balanced condition of living organism in which the integral, harmonious performance of the vital functions tends to the preservation of organism and the normal development of the individual ". By sick, Hahnemann means the whole disturbance in personality. Derangement of the vital force is termed as sick.it's the derangement of the vital force which precedes any organic damage. When a person falls ill, it is not 1 part of the body but the entire human being that is suffering. Hahnemann strongly believe that the tissue cannot derange unless the vital force is deranged. It is the patient as a whole who is sick. When the patient is brought back to his previous healthy state, it is considered that he is cured.

“Cure is the alteration of that altered state of health to its previously normal healthy state.”

Explanation of Footnote of aphorism 1 (Theoretic medicine)

In the footnote1, hahnemann criticises

that the physician’s work is not to construct various theories about the disease and its cause. But his only aim is to find out the curative remedy for that disease. Hahnemann wants the the physician to cure the sick rather than wasting time the in constructing theories. Hahnemann says "It is high time that all those who call themselves physicians should at length cease to deceive suffering mankind with mere talks, and begin now, instead for once to act, that is, really to help and cure." A good physician should stick to basic laws and should not coin the new theories to avoid confusion.
